RTI activists call on Vohra

JAMMU: A joint delegation of the JKRTI Movement and Sangarsh RTI Movement met the Governor, Mr. N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan here today and submitted a Memorandum of their demands.
The demands projected to the Governor by the RTI activists’ deputation, included, interalia, the appointment of the Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners in the State without any further delay; imparting training and awareness to the Public Information Officers and Assistant Public Information Officers designated by the State Government; reducing the application fee for seeking information under the Act; inclusion of RTI Act in the academic curricula at the school, college and university levels; publishing the Act in Urdu and Hindi languages and protection of the RTI applicants.
Other demands highlighted by the deputationists included pro-active disclosure of information by all the public authorities.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the deputationists and observed that while he would discuss their demands with the Chief Minister, they must continue their activism with zeal and honesty. The RTI activists delegation comprised the Convener Sangarsh, Mr. Balvinder Singh, Mr. Raman Sharma, Mr. Ayaz Mughal and Advocate Mr. Nadeem Qadri. The Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. R. K. Goyal, was present on the occasion.
