Jammu, Dec 18 (TNI): RTI activists including members of JK RTI Movement and Sangrash RTI Movement met leader of opposition party Mehbooba Mufti at her residence in Jammu. The RTI Activists submitted a memorandum to the Leader of Opposition (LoP) carrying a list of demands.
Their demands enclosed appointment of members of State Information Commission at an earliest. The RTI activists including Balvinder Singh, who is also the convener of Sangarsh RTI Movement, Raman Sharma and Ayaz Mughal requested her that the selection process should be transparent and as far as possible it should also be unanimous. They also discussed about the threats and harassment met by some RTI applicants across the state at the hands of corrupt officials.
The leader of opposition Mehbooba Mufti gave a patient hearing and assured the RTI activists that all their demands would be taken into consideration and she would raise the genuine issues related to non implementation of RTI Act at the appropriate forum. Mehbooba Mufti shared her concern about the safety and security of RTI applicants and reduction of excess fee for RTI applications.
She promised that she would remain present in the next meeting of selection committee for appointing SIC members. Mehbooba Mufti agreed that she would insist for selecting eminent, sincere, non-controversial, well experienced and knowledgeable person(s) for the task of SIC members.
It is pertinent to mention here that last week these RTI activists Balvinder Singh, Raman Sharma and Ayaz Mughal also met Governor N.N.Vohra at Raj Bhawan Jammu and presented their demands for the proper implementation of RTI act and dysfunctional State Accountability Commission.
