Sangarsh RTI Movement Aware People on RTI in Ramban – Kashmir Times – 10 Oct 2011

RAMBAN: To aware citizens and officers about the Right to Information (RTI) Act, Sangharsh RTI Movement and Commonwealth Human Rights Initiatives (CHRI) in collaboration with district administration Ramban organised RTI awareness cum training programme in new conference hall at DC office complex Ramban.
The District Development Commissioner Ramban presided over the programme which was attended by more than 100 officers, public information officers, Sarpanchs, Panchs, NGO members, prominent citizens and other social activists belonging to district Ramban.
The welcome note was read out by Darvinder Singh, member Sangharsh RTI group and resident of Batote. Later Balvinder Singh another member of the organisation threw light on the activities of their organisation and urged the citizens to avail the fullest benefit of the transparency law. He also presented the success stories of the organisation on RTI.
Whereas Ayaz Mughal, RTI activist and member Sangharsh, through his PowerPoint presentation explained the various sections and provisions of J and K RTI Act 2009 viz-a-viz Central RTI Act 2005.
Another RTI activist Raman Sharma, while debating implementation of RTI Act in J and K State, underlined the grievances of the citizens and the PIOs as well. He reiterated demand of his organisation for ensuring budgetary provision for proper implementation of RTI in the State.
Later on Shabir Ahmed Bhat, District Development Commissioner addressed the participants and asked the PIO to honour rights of the citizens and ensure timely delivery of information under the RTI Act.
At the end of workshop, an interactive session was conducted for questions from the RTI experts.
