With the view to sensitize Public Information Officers (PIOs) and APIOs about the provisions of Jammu and Kashmir Right to Information Act 2009, Deputy Commissioner Poonch organized one-day RTI awareness-cum-workshop here Tuesday.
The program was presided over by Sajad Ahmed Khan, Deputy Commissioner Poonch and Hitesh Gupta District Panchayat Officer (DPO) Poonch coordinated the programme. In the programme officers belonging to different departments of district Poonch including PIOs, APIOs and dealing assistants took part.
The interaction session started with welcome address read by Hitesh Gupta (DPO), whereas Ayaz Mughal, RTI Activist through his power point presentation explained the various sections and provisions of J&K RTI Act 2009 with special emphasis on section 4 of Act.
Ayaz Mughal said, “RTI Act is a wonderful tool to curb the prevailing corruption if it is used in the proper way. He also requested the PIO’s to render all possible assistance to the information seeker”. “As per section 4 of J&K RTI Act, the public authorities should disclose the information pro-actively in order to reduce the use of RTI applications”, he added and also replied to various questions posed by the participants during an interactive session.
The DC, while addressing the participants, asked the PIOs to honour rights of the citizens and also ensure timely delivery of information under the RTI act. He said, the PIOs need not treat RTI as against them rather they should render all the possible assistance to strengthen it.”
